In September 2020, my good hunting buddy and I went on a combination trip with B og H Jagtrejser. First, the trip was to Slovenia to hunt Chamois, and finally to Austria to try our luck hunting marmots.
After arriving safely in Slovenia and being shown the apartment we were to stay in, we had something to eat with B og H Jagtrejsers’ man on site and the local hunter.
Early the next morning, we set off to start the chamois hunt, heading up the mountain with a few stops at places where we expected to see chamois. We reached the top (1700 m) after 1.5 hours. It was a tough trip and you have to remember a dry t-shirt, and I’m otherwise used to walking 27-30,000 steps in my daily life.
We didn’t see any chamois on the top, so we went down again and there the hunter spotted a chamois with a kid, so unfortunately no shot opportunity.
Back home, we had something to eat and then relaxed so we were ready again for the evening stalk, which was unsuccessful.
The next morning, the trip went to new terrain and it was hard to hike up and down the mountains, but it was exciting and beautiful. There was a good shot chance at 190 m. but the breathing was not in place, I’m not an Olympic biathlete (lack of fitness).
The evening trip was also unsuccessful and the next morning we went out into a new terrain, but it became so foggy that we could only see 25 m, so we went home.
So no chamois this time, but it is definitely not the last time I am hunting in the mountains. It was very exciting and challenging and I also have a chamois walking and waiting, as the hunters said when I went home.
On the way home, we took a short stay in Austria to shoot some marmots with great success. There was a good hunt led by the local hunter. It takes place up in +2000 m. So all in all a completely fantastic trip so thanks to B og H Jagtrejser for well-done work.
Hunting greetings
Kurt
